I was involved in an MVA and as a result was unable to return to work. My company decided to terminate my employement (Massive terminations/layoffs) and as a result I went on EI. I was not being paid by the insurance company at this point. I was approved for 40 weeks of EI benifits. Once my EI benifits expired my insurance company sent me a lumpsum check for income replacement benifits that was past due (360/week). Today I received word from EI that my former employer has decided to award me an additional 6000 for the time spent in the company (As severence pay). After discussing the situation with the EI support line I understand that most likely all that 6000 will go to EI and my EI benifits would be extended for 12 weeks. I am currently being paid by my insurance company 400/week, do I qualify for those 12 weeks of EI and should I repay EI any of that lumpsum that I received from my insurance company? I want to make sure I am not breaking any laws but don't want to pay what I don't have to.
