Can I get Employment Insurance and accident insurance benefits at the same time?

12.18.08

Yes you can get employment insurance and accident insurance benefits at the same time. But you must declare income replacement benefits as income when you are in receipt of EI. Income replacement benefits will be deducted from your EI payments.

The rules concerning the interaction of Employment Insurance benefits, income replacement benefits, WSIB, CPP disability, LTD, STD, ODSP and OW are very complicated. The rules are also different depending upon when you first qualify for the benefit. It is best if you contact me and we can discuss your specific case.

Can I receive cpp disability as well as my parental ei? or will ei take the cpp disability as an earning and deduct it from my ei income?

I was involved in an MVA and as a result was unable to return to work. My company decided to terminate my employement (Massive terminations/layoffs) and as a result I went on EI. I was not being paid by the insurance company at this point. I was approved for 40 weeks of EI benifits. Once my EI benifits expired my insurance company sent me a lumpsum check for income replacement benifits that was past due (360/week). Today I received word from EI that my former employer has decided to award me an additional 6000 for the time spent in the company (As severence pay). After discussing the situation with the EI support line I understand that most likely all that 6000 will go to EI and my EI benifits would be extended for 12 weeks. I am currently being paid by my insurance company 400/week, do I qualify for those 12 weeks of EI and should I repay EI any of that lumpsum that I received from my insurance company? I want to make sure I am not breaking any laws but don’t want to pay what I don’t have to.
